Brad Stone, Amazon to Sell E-Books for Apple Devices, NY Times, Mar. 4, 2009, B3.
You can now buy E-books from Amazon for reading on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch. Owners of these devices can download free application of Kindle. The software will give them full access to the 240,000 e-books for sale on Amazon.com which includes a majority of best sellers. Amazon will also create automatic bookmarks so that a user can stop reading a book on one device and pick it up on another device at the same spot in the text. Amazon sees that people will use their mobile phones to read books for only short periods, such as waiting in line at the grocery store. By using the new iPhone application, consumers may be persuaded to buy a Kindle, stand-alone book reader as a result, according to Ian Freed, Amazon’s vice president in charge of the Kindle.
