Colleges Drop their ACT and SAT Requirement

Two Colleges End Test-Score Requirement/ACT-and SAT-free the way to be?, N.Y. Times, May 27, 2008.

Smith College, women’s college in North Hampton, Mass., Wake Forest University (WFU), and Gustavus Adolphus (GAC) will no longer require SAT or ACT scores as part their applications.  Yes, this does sound like a liberal arts move to give “everyone” a shot at college.  Perhaps, this is way for these colleges to attract more diverse student bodies and increase the amount of applications.  By the way, colleges typically charge for college applications.  Smith, after dropping the ACT and SAT requirement received an increase of 1,171 applications in the first year, the most in its 137 history.  The cash machine is going “Ka-ching, ka-ching!”
