Islamic Schools in America Retool Curriculum

Islamic studies curriculum has traditionally focused on rote memorization. However, in the United States, competition with the distractions of mass entertainment and consumerism has caused difficulties.  Islamic educators have retooled the curriculum in American schools to “encourage students to discover facts through brainstorming, problem solving, collaboration, questioning, doubting, reasoning, and examining the presented material’s validity and authenticity.”  Teachers now encourage students to solve real-world problems using group brainstorming sessions and age-appropriate logic exercises.
