Kathryn Nelson, Bringing Calm to the Class, Star Tribune, May 21, 2008, at AA1, AA11.
This past year, two Minneapolis school instructors have trained approximately 500 teachers in 37 schools in the art of yoga. The program is called Yoga Calm, which targets younger people, promoting the connection between mind and body. Techniques include incorporating breathing, calming stretches, and self-affirmations during daily classroom sessions. The program has resulted in students being more limber, calm, focused, and less aggressive. The program seems to be an asset to those students who come from unstable home environments or need extra academic support.
