Belmont University is opening one of the first new Colleges of Law in Tennessee in nearly 100 years. Belmont’s President Dr. Fisher said, “ . . . given the public role of many legal professionals, we believe a vital element of the Belmont Law education will be preparing out students for roles as community leaders and change agents.” The law school plans to link challenging academic course work with real-life experience and innovative curriculum.
A recent study indicated there would be an increase in the demand for attorneys in Tennessee as well as that region over the next decade. Tennessee has fewer lawyers per capita than almost all the other states that opened an ABA accredited law school in the past ten years. There are also a large number of individuals interested in attending law school in Tennessee who are currently not admitted, as well as a large number of Tennessee residents attending law school out of state.
